Wood is a material I feel deeply connected to – its texture, its scent, the awareness that we both once touched the earth. The painting of oil and wood is a calming combination for me. The human soul is made of many layers. Beneath appearances lies the soul, and beneath the soul lies yet another layer – our true selves. This painting captures a moment of the soul’s breaking open and its healing. The soul radiates warmth and clarity, but if we dig deeper, we find bareness and innocence – something most people try to conceal. Paint – bark – bare wood. Reaching the deepest layers of the soul sometimes requires a harsher, more painful approach – but only then can true vulnerability emerge.
